Digital backdrops are images that other photographers have created digitally: patterns like gradients, depictions of dramatic skies or resemblances of old stained linen cloth, meant to be retouched into the background of a portrait, to give it a more atmospheric or nostalgic look. I have dragged these backdrops out into the world in front of the screen, printed them in different large formats and subjected them to different light sources and light temperatures.
